What is it?It is demonstrated that personal and professional success depends more on our Social and Emotional Intelligence than on our Intellectual Quotient.
Social and Emotional Intelligence is the ability to be aware of our own emotions and those of others, in the present moment, and to use that information to manage ourselves and manage our relationships. It includes four main competences:
Those competences include: adaptation, stress management, self-control, self-confidence, conflict management, leadership, resilience, collaboration, communication, creativity, and more. |
Who needs it?Everybody! Leaders, managers, team members, parents, spouses, teachers, children, in short, all of us!
It goes without saying that expatriates, in view of their international and mobile life, need to cultivate competences such as: flexibility, resilience, empathy, adaptation, stress management, etc. A high level of Social and Emotional Intelligence is a real asset when working with multicultural teams, or simply when regularly facing changes. The good news is that Social and Emotional intelligence can be learned and developed. Should it be for work or for home, developing one’s emotional intelligence includes a lot of advantages. For more details on the competences included in Social and Emotional Intelligence, I recommend reading the following document: Four Quadrant Model of Social and Emotional Intelligence.
